So you have decided to buy that someone special in your life
a battery powered ride on toy. Now you
want to know a little more about the several different brands and types of
vehicles out there. We have put together this ride-on toy buyer’s guide to
briefly explain what is out there.
Initially the type of battery powered ride-on toy you choose
for your child needs to be based on the size and age of the child. That’s where we head into the first section
of our guide of battery powered ride-on toys.
Size Does Matter
We will touch base briefly on battery size and ride-on toy
size. When purchasing a battery-powered
ride on you need to follow the manufacturer’s recommendation for what ages the
vehicle is made for. If your child is on
the high end of the age range you may want to contact the retailer for more
information. Some cars like Toys Toys brand
are made a little bit smaller than the other cars available. I would never recommend a Toy Toys ride-on
toy for a 5 year old because the child would simply be too big. Generally 6 volt ride-on toys are a good
match for 3-4 year old and then above that I would go to a 12 volt or higher
ride-on toy. Most of the motorcycle
ride-on toys will fit ages 3-5 years and are fairly stable due to them having
training wheels or 3 wheels.
Batteries and
Motors
When buying a battery powered ride-on toy, make sure you
look at what size the battery is; not just whether it is 6v or 12v, but how
many ah (amp hours) the batteries are. The higher the amp hours the larger the
battery capacity and the longer the toy will last between charges. For 12v toys, I like to see toys with at a
least an 8 amp hour battery, but most of the products I sell carry 10 ah
batteries. The difference between the 6
volt and 12 volt motors is basically battery longevity and this would equate to
lower speed motors for the toys to extend the battery life. For younger children below the age of 4, I suggest
6 volt battery ride-on toys.
Brands, Models and
Replacement Parts
At Kidcruisers.com we carry Feber (Spain) Toys Toys (Italy),
Injusa (Spain), Kalee (China) and Mini Motos (China). We just love the Toys Toys cars due to their
high quality craftsmanship and the amount of detail on their exotic car ride-on
cars. Feber is known for their wide
variety of battery powered ride-on toys and rival the offerings of Peg
Perego. Injusa is known in the toys industry
for making battery and non-battery-powered ride-on toys. Kalee and Mini Motos are made in china and
you will notice their styles of cars look identical to the ride-on toys offered
by Power Wheels; because they are made by the same manufacturer. If you stick to one of the main brands out there
that I listed as well as a retailer that offer replacement parts, then you will
be headed in the right direction. At
kidcruisers.com we offer replacement parts, batteries and chargers for all
products we sell, because unfortunately toys break.
To sum up our little buyers guide. Buy a ride-on toy from a trusted retailer
that is the correct size for the child with adequate power. Also, be assured that when your child grows
out of their toy, the resale market for these battery-powered ride-on toys has
always been great.
